Teddington Footbridge – Redecoration

Teddington Footbridge – Redecoration
Back to Case Studies

Working with FM Conway for 4 Months in Teddington, West London

Maintaining two connected Grade II listed footbridges while keeping them open to pedestrians required careful planning and specialist access. CAN developed a bespoke solution that allowed essential refurbishment works to be carried out safely with minimal disruption above and below the bridge.

CAN was contracted to carry out extensive redecorating works to the Teddington Footbridge in West London. The two footbridges that make the Teddington Footbridge were built between 1887 and 1889 and were awarded Grade II listed status in 2005.

The works included shot blasting of the existing lead-based paint system and the reapplication of a new coating system that upheld the bridge’s Grade II status.

A bespoke access system was developed to encapsulate the work area, allowing for continued pedestrian use above and to prevent pollution from any debris and materials falling into the river Thames below.

The project was completed within the agreed time frame with limited disruption to the pedestrian and river traffic.
