CAN wins at Taylor Woodrow Construction Supply Chain Awards 2018!

On October 18th, CAN attended the first Taylor Woodrow Construction Supply Chain Awards curated by Taylor Woodrow.

Managing Director, Andy Wingfield and Geotechnical Project Managers, Jodi Sharman and Jacob Clutterbuck all made the trip down to One Great George Street, London, at the Institute of Civil Engineers.

The awards were hosted in the Great Hall, described by Wikipedia as “a ‘Graeco-Roman rhapsody’, as huge marble pilasters with bronze effect Ionic capitals and metal bases interspersed with consoled panels that frame portraits from the Institution’s oil paintings collection flow around the vertical surfaces”.  Two crystal chandeliers adorn the ceiling either side of the commemorative painting for the work of civil engineers in World War I.

The seating plan was relaxed, encouraging a mixture of Taylor Woodrow employees and various suppliers to network.

CAN attended these awards knowing we were nominated for two possible awards:

  1. The Quality award
  2. Best Subcontractor award

The proceedings started with Neil Mant, VCUK Supply Chain Director of Taylor Woodrow welcoming us, followed by Julian Gatward, the Managing Director, thanking all the suppliers for their hard work and involvement.  After watching a presentation showing Taylor Woodrow’s various achievements we moved onto the different awards.  Different people from Taylor Woodrow introduced the awards and announced the winners simultaneously, always a relevant job title to the award being announced.  For example, the HSQE Director announced the Health and Safety award.

The award for Quality came and went, CAN didn’t get “highly commended” and we didn’t win.  The award for Best Subcontractor came and went and yet again CAN didn’t get “highly commended” and didn’t win.  Feeling a little downhearted we thought that was it.  Then Julian Gatward, the Managing Director returned to the stage to present the Judges “Delivering Together” award.

Low and behold, the winner was announced as … CAN!

The Judges Delivering Together Award is an accolade selected from all the entrants and awarded to the entry that displayed all of the values of ‘Delivering Together’.

A surprised Andy ventured up to collect the award with a hand shake and a photo followed by celebratory drinks and networking.

We are over the moon with the result!  We had been picked by the judges out of all the nominees for sharing and displaying all Taylor Woodrow’s values of delivering together.

Firstly, a big well done to all the other shortlisted nominees and a huge congratulations to all those highly commended and to all the winners from the night.

Secondly, a huge thank you and congratulations to all Site Operatives involved in the following jobs.  On all the Dr Days to Filton Abbey Wood Capacity Improvement (Filton Bank 4 tracking) Projects that CAN has undertaken with Taylor Woodrow: Ashley Hill South, Ashley Hill North, Narroways, Horfield, Albion Road and Filton Abbey Wood (specific).  To CAN Project Managers: Ben Foulger, Jacob Clutterbuck and Jodi Sharman and hardworking CAN Site Managers: Colin Smith, Ashley Brazil, Damon Kempton, Stephen Henderson and Luke Fuller (no longer working for CAN).  It is safe to say we wouldn’t have won this award without yourselves.

Finally, thank you to all the people at Taylor Woodrow who we worked with on these projects, on site and behind the scenes.
