Back in late 2016, CAN worked to remove approximately 15,000m2 of vegetation and install passive/drape mesh (Maccaferri 13,950m2, Enkamat 5,850m2) to a rail cutting by Watford Tunnel, London, using rope access techniques.
A small excavator was utilised along the crest installing 318 crest bolts as well as hand drilling 305 toe bolts. Rope access techniques were used on slope for dropping the mesh, up to 20m in height / length.
With overhead lines present along the length of the worksite it meant that all of the works had to take place in possessions with complete isolation’s of these in place.
During the course of the works after a significant period of heavy rain and compounded by changes to the surrounding land, behind the site, a small area of the site was subject to a landslip. This was to an area that had yet to be meshed. CAN quickly moved additional resources to attend to this and get the line open again as fast as possible:
