CAN undertook a design and build contract to stabilise this section of rock face on the A591 near Thirlmere, installing an array of 3m length solid bar rock bolts and a Tecco netting facing.
Works were undertaken on an emergency basis towards the end of the larger project to repair and reopen to the A591 after damage was sustained in the December 2015 floods.
With the upcoming deadline for re-opening the road looming, CAN was able to respond rapidly with a team on site to scale the rock face. This was before CAN’s in house designer attended site to mark out bolt locations in accordance with the design.
The site team were able to work efficiently in the full road closure whilst letting other construction traffic through site. This allowed CAN’s element of the works to be finished ahead of programme and without delay to other elements of the scheme.
