  • St Helier Pumping Station, Jersey - Storage Chamber Inspection

States of Jersey (Department for Infrastructure) required a detailed inspection of the structural steelwork within this large overflow / storage chamber for the foul water drainage system for the island.

The inspection specification required the inspectors to be within touching distance of all the steelwork, and as such industrial rope access techniques where deemed to be the most suitable method of access. Access techniques used ranged from simple descent and ascent methods to more arduous and complex aid-climbing on anchors installed as the technician advanced.

Whilst not categorised as a confined space, the CAN access team undertook the works using similar precautions and work practices given the work environment and remote location of the work site. Fastidious adherence to PPE and good hygiene practices were monitored and recorded.

Upon completion, a detailed factual report was presented to the client which enabled a future repair and maintenance strategy to be developed.
