In 2019 CAN was employed to carry out the routine chimney inspection and testing of the heat recovery steam generator chimney stacks, to SSE’s 735 megawatt gas-fired power station on the Isle of Grain.
The CAN access team used a combination of confined space and industrial rope access techniques to carry out the following:
- Non-destructive ultrasonic metal thickness tests
- Visual and electrical testing of the lighting conductor system
- Close visual examinations to all areas, recording the level and orientation of defects using CAN’s Structural Information Management System (SIMS)
- Capturing photographs of all typical and atypical defects.
The project was undertaken and completed during a strict site outage with minimal interference to third party contractors and site staff alike.
