CAN Structures Ltd was requested to design and install an encapsulation system to protect pedestrians from failed limestone facia panels to the North West and South East elevations of Salt Quay House.

A net system was designed in accordance to BS 8411:2019 Safety Nets on construction sites and other works – Code of practice. The net system comprised of 2 layers of heavy duty cargo netting, capable of withstanding the likely wind loading and able to contain failed limestone cladding.

Using industrial rope access techniques, a net system was fixed to the building façade by means of a series of anchors installed at regular intervals. Additional support and encapsulation was provided using a series of vertical and horizontal stainless steel cables. The net system was designed to last for a minimum of 3 years and is subject to an annual inspection.
