• Nottingham Castle - Geotechnical Inspection

Nottingham City Council called CAN in after a rock fall, to undertake an inspection of the cliff face around Nottingham Castle after a large sandstone block had become detached.

However, it appeared that not all of the block had come down and part of it was still suspended with the concern being that it would eventually fall.

The initial call came in on the Monday.  CAN mobilised our geotechnical engineer and a Level 3 to site on Thursday morning the same week, to carry out the inspection.

The remaining section of the block was too well attached still to easily remove it.  The solution was to install 3 x 3m long rock bolts through it to ensure that it remained permanently in place.  Vegetation was also cleared from around it to prevent any further growth of roots.
