Ongoing general maintenance was required to the bridge, consisting of the installation of new electrical feed cables to the under-bridge lights and the re-charging of the grease cartridges that lubricate the pulley bearings.

Working over the tidal estuary meant that rope access offered the ideal quick and safe solution to undertake these minor maintenance works.  It also afforded the opportunity to keep the bridge open during the works.  This utilised carefully managed pedestrian management supported by a permanent lookout.

Aid climbing techniques meant that CAN’s rope technicians were easily able to gain access to the underside of the bridge deck and to ascend the suspension cables to access the pulley bearings.

Whilst only a small contract, it was completed quickly and easily with the minimum disruption.
