The Imperial War Museum wanted to be able to ‘dress’ HMS Belfast on important occasions and asked CAN to carry out the replacement of the halliards to the cruiser’s masts and Fore, Centre and Aft uphauls.
The opportunity to publicise the project and capitalise on the spectacular views available from this much loved and iconic visitor attraction were not lost on the Imperial War Museum. To this end CAN rigged access systems for a third party non-IRATA trained technician, Ms Lindsey Russell from the BBC’s Blue Peter, to enable her to access and ‘help’ with the replacement of the halliards. Ms Russell even took the opportunity to fly the Blue Peter flag.
The halliard replacement project was completed with minimum inconvenience to staff and visitors and the filming was complimented by a beautiful summer afternoon.
