As part of the new Hinckley Point C Power Station works, Costain asked CAN to assist in gaining access to the 4 crosshead bearing piers and install monitoring prisms to enable future movement monitoring to take place.
CAN technicians used throw lines to install ropes to the piers which were then anchored using pull through belays. Having ascended the previously installed ropes the process was repeated until access to the cross head was achieved. The access work had to be coordinated with the tidal nature of the work site and as such a flexible shift pattern was adopted.
CAN technicians installed the required monitoring devices to the cross head saddle as directed by Costain, enabling the client to set the datum for future surveying use.
