CAN completed an essential landslip remediation on the approach road to a village cut into heavily wooded sidelong ground, carrying out a design and build solution to stabilise the failed slope.

The site was particularly constrained, both by the narrow road, overhead power lines, buried services and finally the woodland itself.

CAN’s landslip remediation solution was to use pre-cast concrete retaining wall units, soil nails and slope facing systems to stabilise failing ground and support the road shoulder.  Further support was provided by an array of simultaneously drilled and grouted hollow bar soil nails on the slopes below the new wall.  Where poor and soft ground conditions were met soil improvement was undertaken using a cement/lime mix.

Finally to minimise the impact on the surrounding environment and any risk to the public in this wooded area rockfall netting overlaying geotextile soil cells was used to cover exposed nail head assemblies.
