CAN was requested to undertake the principal inspection of Flintshire Bridge, a 1km long 20-span cable-stayed road bridge, including a 130m high tower and 76 cables supporting the main span.

In order to access and enable a tactile survey of the 30m wide concrete deck CAN designed and developed the CAN-Beam.  Its low profile allowed the inspection of the river span without disruption to the navigation channel below.

MEWPs were used to inspect the voided approach viaduct requiring confined space operatives, whilst the cable stays were inspected by rope access methods.

A comprehensive report was issued to the client detailing the inspection’s findings, recommendations, defect location drawings and photographs.
