CAN was requested to undertake an inspection of the Blackfriars Railway Bridge. Site constraints included working over water and on the operational railway.
CAN inspectors used standard industrial rope access descent and ascent techniques to access the facades combined with aid climbing techniques to access the soffit of the structure. A safety boat was employed for the duration of the works to provide rescue cover for the technicians over water.
Defects were described, measured and recorded on annotated drawings for the client to interpret in a final report.
The project was undertaken and completed during standard weekday night shifts with minimal interference to the operational railway or river traffic.
