The use of soil nails and gabion baskets offered the ideal solution to stabilise the embankment following a significant land slip.  This had resulted in a significant portion of a domestic garden falling away.

Initially the bank was re-profiled prior to installing soil nails and TECCO Mesh facing system to prevent further slippage.  As a result, using gabion baskets at the crest and tying them back into competent ground meant that the tenants of the property regained the missing section of their back garden.  This was completed by the installation of a new boundary fence.

To be able to undertake the works on what was a very constructed site, CAN installed temporary catch fences at the toe of the slope and at mid height.  Thus allowing the A-Frame drill rigs to work safely adjacent to the open line.  These were suspended from a specially designed crest line access system.  Using small excavators and a modified drill rig system allowed CAN to complete the works under Adjacent Line Open (ALO) working conditions.  This allowed the normal running of trains to continue throughout the project.
