Supporting Bremwal Ltd over 10 months in Jersey

CAN delivered rock face stabilisation works as part of the redevelopment of Jersey’s Bellozanne wastewater treatment facility, helping create space for the new infrastructure.

The Island of Jersey’s Bellozanne wastewater treatment facility required renewal to meet population growth and future environmental standards. Construction had to occur on limited land while keeping the existing plant operational.

CAN was contracted to stabilise the steep rock faces created by excavation of 70,000 m³ of hillside to make space for the new facility.

The hillside was cut into a series of benches, allowing access for four 22 t excavator-mounted drill rigs and a Casagrande C6 tracked drill rig. CAN installed 2,700 rock bolts, 6–15 m long, totalling 30,250 m, pre-loaded before further excavation. Deltax netting secured to bolts was used on slopes

All rock faces were stabilised sequentially with minimal disruption to the existing facility, ensuring safe excavation and construction of the new treatment plant, meeting design and safety requirements throughout the phased works.
