Introduction
Soil nailing is a cost-effective method for long-term stabilisation of over-steepened soil slopes. The tensile strength of the in situ soil is increased by drilling and grouting in high strength bars in a regular array.
Soil nails are often installed in conjunction with a facing system. Attention must also be given to ensuring adequate drainage of the slope, possibly by installing inclined drains.
CAN's Capabilities
CAN installs both temporary and permanent soil nails, choosing between conventional steel, fibre-glass and hollow self-drilling tendons to offer the most cost effective nail type for each project. We apply our experience of nailing in a wide variety of ground conditions and access situations to remediate existing over-steep slopes or newly formed faces.
In less steep locations CAN uses a geo-composite facing, aimed at supporting vegetation growth over the slope. In steeper locations a more robust option such as sprayed concrete is usually adopted. In all cases CAN is able to provide a turnkey solution, removing the need to employ interdependent sub-contractors.
